Meet Sarah
Meet Sarah, the creative force behind Waves and Wild. As a former primary school teacher and a devoted mother to her two adorable children, Jack and Charlie, Sarah has always had a passion for sewing with a special focus on childrenswear. With a British qualification in Fashion and Design, plus her work with children, she possesses an insightful understanding of how clothes truly work for children in real-life situations.
Sarah's journey as a designer began when she was living in Australia, where the limited availability of certain baby items prompted her to take matters into her own hands. Unable to find an asymmetric cloth bib, she decided to create one herself and thus the Baby Bandana Bib was born. Similarly, the standard cloth nappies available in stores were too large for her son, Jack, inspiring her to design the One Size Fits Most Nappy Pattern.
Word spread quickly about Sarah's innovative designs, and friends began requesting their own versions. The demand grew steadily, leading Sarah to establish Made By Jack's Mum in 2012. Initially, she offered ready-to-wear clothing, but it was the process of creating original PDF patterns that truly ignited her passion. During a stay in Yorkshire to allow her boys to connect with their UK family, Sarah continued to expand her business, laying the foundation for what would later become Waves and Wild.
Under the Made By Jack's Mum brand, the business flourished, but Sarah felt the urge to explore new horizons beyond sewing patterns exclusively for babies and children. Renaming the brand as Waves and Wild allowed her to soar creatively and extend her offerings to a wider audience. The name perfectly captures the essence of the brand—natural, free-spirited, and evocative of the great outdoors. It also pays homage to Sarah's approach to design, blending her UK and Australian influences seamlessly.
Today, Waves and Wild stands as a symbol of Sarah's unwavering commitment to crafting customisable sewing patterns that inspire creativity in sewists of all levels.
